Pieces Falling Into Place

56 days to go!  Whoot!

How well do you know me? For those who don’t know me well, I’m an organizer/planner.  I love to organize events, closets, storage rooms, etc., and I especially love to organize travel.  My original career ambition was to become a Travel Consultant and assist others in making their vacation plans.  But the more common sense career option of becoming a bookkeeper won out.  But planning a vacation, that is totally my thing, much to the chagrin, of my family.

The opportunity of travelling to East Africa is becoming a reality! Annnnd, of course I’m deep into the planning.  Of course there are the basics of flights, package, extra accommodations, etc., but then there are some of the other details that need to be taken care of as well. Things like extra excursions, country visas, immunizations, transportation, airport parking, currency and so much more.  The past several months have been filled with lots and lots of planning.

We will first travel to London, England, through the gargantuan Heathrow airport, and spend a few days in Windsor.  Another personal tidbit, I’m also a royalty buff.  I’ve always been enamoured with castles and there have been a few castles on the wish list.  Windsor Castle is definitely one of those places. These few days in the Windsor area are meant to help us acclimate to a rather significant 7-hour time change from home.

From England we will head to Nairobi, Kenya via Frankfurt, Germany.  Many hours of flying and two more time zones, making it 9 hours different than our home location.  We are arriving a couple days earlier than the start of the tour, giving us some time again to acclimate to both the timezone and the location. Nairobi is just south of the equator. Once the tour is complete, we will travel back to London, England to spend a week visiting, sightseeing (of course more castle visits) and then back to Edmonton.

For now, we’re ready. We have had our immunizations and have acquired our supply of medications needed for travel.  We have applied for the tourist Visas for both Kenya and Tanzania and we have made all of the other arrangements needed to complete the whole trip.  We have even set aside suitcases and a few special travel items we will need.  And now we wait.

We are excited to take you along with us on this once-in-a-lifetime adventure.  We hope you enjoy the journey with us and look forward to seeing all your comments.

Come along!

Three Castles in Three Days

[Wednesday, August 16, 2023 to Friday, August 18, 20233] For efficiency sake, I've combined the last three days into a single post. No...
